A few thoughts on approach…

Product & Strategy

The stickiest part of digital product is transitioning from discovery into delivery; going from sparkling ideation and curiosity into the brass tacks of getting s*(# done. My approach in product is to facilitate just enough collaboration for what we-didn’t-know-we-didn’t-know to come out, and, when the moment is right, get sharp on requirements and execution. I’m all for moving fast and taking responsibility for things that could break.

I love sensemaking upstream (in discovery) and downstream (build-measure-learn experiments) and helping teams stay grounded in customer insights.

Process

There are enough design thinking and process maps out there to wallpaper your home office, but the Diverge and Converge principles are the foundation of them all. I’ve had the pleasure of pulling the hood off and tweaking the process and ways of working of several design and cross-functional teams. I’ve even helped a business development team dig deep and recraft their sales process.

I feel strongly that intuitive wayfinding skills–not blind dedication to process–are core to excellence in design. (I have a thought piece about this if you’re interested).

Playbook

While my toolkit will always stand happily on the shoulders of giants like IDEO, Hyper Island and Google Ventures, sometimes you need to sneak up on your brain from a new angle, and it’s my greatest joy to find ways to do this. I’ve designed and iterated on a variety of tools and frameworks over the years...

Teleskessions, Parallel worlds, Flow-state ideation, Work Intentions, Human-Centered Data, Silent Synth, Fortunately-Unfortunately career celebration, and a even a silly team ritual called Stop-Drop-and-Screenshot (it has it’s own poem) to name a few.
